CLIENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Each program area has its own specific rights. However, many are universal in any of COMTREA's therapy programming. Each person served, family, and/or legal guardian has the right:
- To have adequate mental health services and treatment in as open a setting as possible.
- To have his/her own treatment plan.
- To participate in decisions regarding the services provided.
- To have this plan explained to him/her clearly and understandably.
- To know the name of the person in charge of his/her treatment.
- To take part in the planning of his/her discharge.
- To not be the subject of experimental research without his/her prior written and informed consent or that of his/her parent, if a minor, or a guardian, if applicable.
- To have access to consultation with a private physician at his/her own expense.
- To be evaluated, treated, or habilitated in the least restrictive environment.
- To be treated courteously and be free from verbal and physical abuse.
- To humane care and treatment.
- To safe and sanitary housing if in a residential program and in offices if not.
- To have bills and charges for mental health services explained.
- To exercise civil rights unless declared legally incompetent.
- To communicate opinions and grievances verbally or written (see below).
- Because we are a teaching facility, we periodically have Practicum Students (Interns) sit in with our staff. Clients have the right to refuse an intern's participation.
- All persons seen in any program have the right to receive service in a manner that is non-coercive and that protects his/her right to self-determination;
- To have the above rights regardless or race, creed, religion, culture, sex, age, handicap, previous history of substance abuse, or veteran status.
B. Clients who receive services also have responsibilities according to what program they are following. However, all clients are expected to:
- To be prompt for all scheduled sessions.
- To notify primary counselor twenty-four hours in advance in order to cancel a scheduled appointment.
- To deal openly and honestly with the counselor.
- To avoid sexual relationships with a member of a therapeutic group he/she is involved in.
- To pay legitimate charges based upon financial agreements made upon the beginning of the counseling relationship.
- To set therapy goals and to use time in therapy to work toward these goals.
- To keep confidential information they may obtain through group participation.
- Failure to cooperate with the responsibilities is cause for discharge and or termination of services.
C. COMTREA attempts to provide services at convenient times.
- COMTREA's hours for outpatient hours are from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Some programs are provided on Saturdays and some are Weekend programs; information may be obtained on these by calling 636-931-2700.
- Crisis response is available twenty-four hours a day through calling
636-931-2700; after hours calls are handled by BHR, a subsidiary of COMTREA, BJC Behavioral Health Care, Crider Center, and Hopewell Center.
D. Complaints, grievances, or appeals can be made to COMTREA by calling
636-931-2700, sending a letter to the CEO at 227 Main St., Festus, Missouri, 63028, or e-mailing COMTREA's Quality Assurance Officer, Katy Murray at
