The Story of Our Name:

      Athena

A famous “lost myth” told the story of the Greek hero, Jason, and his encounter with a monster.  While the actual story has been lost to history, a charger/bowl etched with this picture was unearthed.  It shows Jason whose search for the “Golden Fleece” is interrupted by a monster who is attempting to swallow him.  But Athena (the goddess of wisdom) rescued him and set him on his way to find that for which he searched.

This story seems to be an excellent metaphor for the process of recovery from alcoholism or other drug abuse.  Through COMTREA’s Athena Program, one can recover from the monster of addiction/dependence and continue his/her productive life.

Upon completion of the residential program graduates receives a coin in a special ceremony.  The coin has the symbol of Athena on one side and the “Serenity Prayer” on the obverse.

Some graduates wear the coin as a necklace; others carry it in their pocket or use it as a key chain.
